Arriving in Cusco: When we walked outside of the airport we were greeted by students from Daniel Estrada Perez, the school where I have done volunteer work and service projects in the past. The kids didn´t even know me, because they were too young to remember when I taught English, but they came running up to greet me with kisses anyway. Also, we got two bouquets of flowers. One was from the school, and the other was from Personal Travel Service. Practically the whole host family was there too! Mamá Laura, my sister Vivian and her two month old baby, Luciano, my sister Claudia, and my sister Fiorela. I felt so wonderful to see everyone again, and Bryan felt completely welcomed. We didn´t waste anytime. Even though we had only slept about 4 hours on the plane, we enjoyed a delicious lunch with the family, and then went to the Plaza de Armas in the center of Cusco to wander around the cobble stone streets and see the incredible Inca stonework.
El Paro: On our second day in Peru there was a national strike in efforts to improve the standard of living. In Cusco there were a few demonstrations, but nothing dangerous. In other parts of the country roads were blocked with large stones and small fires were set. Luckily, that did not affect our plans. We took advantage of the fact that there were no taxis, and walked into the center of town with our sister, Claudia.
